A DIFFERENT CARNIVAL (DIRECTOR/CO-WRITER)
The carnival of the city of Patras is the biggest event of its kind in Greece, the 2nd largest in Europe and the 3rd largest worldwide. It involves a parade, a city wide hidden treasure hunt, and balls.
Patras first carnival was 190 years ago, and has been a vital hub for street art and performance. Only during WW1 and the recent Covid pandemic did the carnival not take place.
X-Saltibagos, a team of acrobats, jesters, tightrope and stilt walkers, who have been a staple of the carnival for over 20 years, came together to film this story; of when the carnival stopped.
A Different Carnival was funded and produced by the Municipality of Patras. It takes place during carnival in an empty town, where acrobats are looking for their audience. Could their colourful dance and tricks bring back some of that carnival magic?
